Actor, musician Taye Diggs to give talk on Dec. 11

Acclaimed actor, musician, artist and author Taye Diggs will be on hand for in-depth discussion at 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at the California Theatre, 351 Railroad Ave.

Diggs will walk the audience through his career, inspirations, struggles as well as the opportunities that led him to become an American icon. The free discussion is brought to the stage by Los Medanos College and the city of Pittsburg.

Stage Right stages ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’

Stage Right Conservatory Theatre Inc. presents “It’s a Wonderful Life” through Dec. 10 at the Nick Rodriguez Community Center theater, 213 F St.

The play is adapted by James W. Rodgers, based on the film by Frank Capra and produced by special arrangement with the Dramatic Publishing Co.

“It’s a Wonderful Life” is the saga of George Bailey, the Everyman from the small town of Bedford Falls, whose dreams of escape and adventure have been quashed by family obligation and civic duty.  George’s guardian angel descends on Christmas Eve to save him from despair and to remind him what the world would have been like had he never been born, and to show him that his life has been, after all, a wonderful life.  This faithful adaptation has all your favorite characters: George Bailey and Mary Hatch, Clarence, Uncle Billy, Aunt Tilly, Violet, and, of course, the Scrooge-like villain, Mr. Potter.

Directed by Felicia Torrez, “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be performed Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 9 and 10 at 2 p.m.

‘Hamilton’ musical songs on tap for Dec. 30

In The Light Voice Studio has added an extra show for its “Hamilton: An American Musical” production at El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.

In The Light Voice Studio features singers and actors from the Broadway world, regional theater companies, “The Voice,” “American Idol,” “You Tube” fame, the television and recording industry. The studio presents a musical tribute to “Hamilton: An American Musical,” featuring songs from the Tony Award-winning musical that is sweeping the nation.

Though the Dec. 30 showing at 7 p.m. is sold-out, there are still tickets availabe for the newly added 2 p.m. performance.

LMC to present comedy ‘Reality Check’

Los Medanos College presents “Reality Check,” Dec. 6-9 at the California Theatre, 351 Railroad Ave.

The play is student-written, with 20 students havng put it together in the summer Drama 914 class. As the story goes, on Munirah’s birthday, a package arrives in her house without anyone noticing. She and her friends unwrap it to find a seemingly ordinary board game called Reality Check. However, once the dice have been rolled Munirah and her friends find themselves trapped within the game in a race against time, stuck in a world that is constantly challenging everything they think they know. The show is a hilarious night of fun, laughter and friendship sure to challenge your way of thinking and destined to give you a reality check.

Black Diamond Ballet presents ‘Nutcracker’ Dec. 9-10

Black Diamond Ballet Theatre, a nonprofit ballet company in East County, will present a full-length rendition of “The Nutcracker” at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 and 2 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Creative Arts Building, 250 School St.

Now in its sixth year, the production will feature Bay Area professional ballerinas, including Antioch native Terrin (McGee) Kelly as the Sugar Plum Fairy; Diablo Ballet and Pittsburg resident Amanda Farris as the Snow Queen; Damon Mahoney as the Sugar Plum Cavalier; Antioch resident and CSULB Dance alumnus Jessica Fleming; Pittsburg High School graduate Myla Benjamin; and Pittsburg resident Anisa Stanton, along with 40 student dancers and actors.

Artistic Director and choreographer, Sharon Sobel Idul is a Pittsburg native and graduate of Pittsburg High School and CSULB Dance Department.  She is  the owner of Pittsburg Performing Arts Academy and dance teacher at Pittsburg High School.

Chris Titus performs ‘Amerigeddon’ at California Theatre

Christopher Titus will bring his eighth comedy special, “Amerigeddon,” to Pittsburg’s California Theatre on Dec. 14.

The show has sold out theaters all over the country. Employing what he’ calls “‘hard funny,’”Titus has released seven 90-minute albums in as many years. He has six one-hour comedy specials currently running on Comedy Central, and his seventh special, “Born With a Defect,” is set to premiere in 2017. Known for leaving no stone unturned, especially within his own life and family, Titus takes his audience on a 90-minute ride that will leave them exhausted from laughter.

‘Nutcracker’ sets performances at Campanil

The Ballet Company of East County will present “The Nutcracker” Dec. 15-17 at El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.

The one-hour-15-minute show will feature ballerinas from throughout East County. Performances are at 7 p.m. Dec. 15; 3 and 7 p.m. Dec. 16; and noon and 4 p.m. Dec. 17. Tickets are $16 to $20.

Brentwood troupe to stage ‘Calendar Girls’

The Brentwood Theater Company will present im Firth’s “Calendar Girls” Dec. 8-17 at the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive.

Directed by Kal Berns, teh play centers on Annie, whose husband has died of leukemia, and wants to raise money for a new settee for a hospital waiting room. They persude four others to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar.

Delta Gallery’s holiday show continues through Dec. 30

Brentwood’s Delta Gallery continues its holiday season activities with a special exhibit.

This special exhibit offers a colorful variety of original paintings, photography, ceramics, glass creations, sculpture, fine woodworking, jewelry, cards, prints and more, created by Art Guild of the Delta Collective artists. Gift certificates are also available for the creative holiday shopper.

PCT holiday show on tap for Dec. 16

Hawaiian Christmas show set for Dec. 16

Nā Mamo No`eau presents “All Thru the Hale” celebrating the holidays Hawaiian style with Oli and Hula of the traditional Makahiki season at the California Theatre, 351 Railroad Ave.
