Kilkeel Fishfest: Calling all seafood lovers

Do you love seafood? Then don’t miss the annual Fishfest in Kilkeel over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, 24th – 27th August.

It starts on Friday 24th August at 7.30pm with a guided Heritage Walk of Cranfield Beach, departing from the Beachcomber Café, Chestnutt Holiday Park, Cranfield West. On Saturday 25th August at 12noon you can take part in a Charity walk from Cranfield Caravan Park to Greencastle and back in aid of Action Cancer, small donation requested.

Get your fishing rods out for 4.00 – 8.00pm  for the Fishfest Fishing Competition & RNLI BBQ at Kilkeel Harbour Slipway. Call into The Harbour Store or contact Martin Tel: 07894204704 to Register. Get your dancing shoes on for 8.30pm “Idle Hands” playing at the Port Inn, donations in aid of Happy Faces Charity and 10.00pm Jesse Garron at the Kilmorey Arms Suite.

The main event takes place on Bank Holiday Monday 27th August in Greencastle Street, Kilkeel Town Centre from 12noon with fresh fish and oyster tasting, craft, novelty and food Stalls, Fun Fayre, Live Music, Inflatables, Zorb Balls and lots more.

You will be spoiled for choice for something tasty to eat with a BBQ at Alfie G’s with Crab Claws, Gourmet Meat and Fish Burgers and music by Graham from 12noon to 4pm or from 12.30pm. Choose from the delicious the Kilmorey Arms Hotel’s Gourmet Seafood Buffet in the Main Marquee or a fresh Kipper from the RNLI BBQ.

Kids, get your entries for the Nautical Recycling Sculpture Competition in to the Marquee for judging, Categories: Up to Age 7, 8 – 11 years, 12+ years, and presentation of prizes takes place at 4pm in the marquee. There will be balloon modelling and face painting all afternoon. At 2pm don’t miss the world class African Drummers Gabriel Makamanzi and Akrowa (Thomas Annang) who will be performing for the first time in Kilkeel.

Following this, the very popular Seafood Cookery Demonstration and Tasters with Roger Moynihan, head chef of the Mourne Seafood Cookery School in the Marquee at 3pm. The Oyster Eating Competition takes place at 4.15pm followed by “Jesse Garron” Rockin in the Marquee, at the Kilmorey Arms Hotel.

Come early and browse around the excellent range of independent retailers who will have fantastic festival offers on through the town. Local restaurants will have a range of special seafood dishes on over the festival weekend.
