Everett’s newest present, winger Nikita Scherbak, was busy making more headlines Monday night as he was named the player of the game in the Montreal Canadiens’ Red-White scrimmage.
If you want to get a look at exactly what Everett is getting in Scherbak (provided he doesn’t stick with Montreal), check out the above highlights video from last season.
But there’s other things going on in Silvertips land other than Scherbak:
– On Tuesday morning the NHL Central Scouting Service released its preliminary players to watch list for the 2015 NHL draft, and three Everett players were among the 39 WHLers listed. Defenseman Noah Juulsen was given a B rating, which projects to the second/third round. Defensmen Carter Cochrane and Kevin Davis were given C ratings, which projects to the fourth/fifth/sixth rounds.
– There were two Silvertips-related news items from Monday that got buried because of the Scherbak news. First, goaltender Carter Hart was named the WHL’s nominee for the CHL Goaltender of the Week award. The 16-year-old rookie stopped all 26 shots in faced in Everett’s season-opening 1-0 victory at Seattle, earning his first WHL win. Second, former Everett head coach Mark Ferner stepped down as associate coach of the Kamloops Blazers to return to the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL. Ferner will again be the general manager and head coach in Vernon, the team he guided to Canadian junior A national titles in 2009 and 2010 prior to being hired by the Tips.
– Former Everett defenseman Landon Oslanski is temporarily back in town. He skated with the team in practice today as he prepares for his season with the ECHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
