BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Over the last 10 years, the city of Fultondale has seen great strides in its commercial development.

Officials and residents hope that’s something that continues.

“We’re always actively soliciting. We have 30 acres on the interstate right here,” says Mayor Jim Lowery.

Lowery is currently talking about land that runs parallel to I-65 and sits just across the street from the Colonial Promenade shopping center.

“We don’t have one specific business, but the idea is to develop that area which is in conjunction with our shopping center and restaurants here. So we want to take what we’ve got here and continue it south to the next exit,” Lowery says.

In order to help attract more businesses, just this week the Fultondale City Council approved a loan, not to exceed $350,000, that will be given to the commercial development authority.

“It would be more for infrastructure. Roads, sewer, water, those type things,” Lowery says. “There’s no certain plan right now on what that money would be used for , but we try to keep some money in that area so when we do need it, we have it available.”

The land Lowery spoke of sits next to land that he says Church of the Highlands plans to build on. There appears to be site development going on. We reached out to the church for more information, but have not received any information.
