Derrick Rose Suffers Torn Meniscus, Out Indefinitely For Chicago Bulls [VIDEO]

Derrick Rose suffered a medial meniscus tear to his right knee that will require surgery and keep him out of action indefinitely for the Bulls, according to The Chicago Tribune.

The newspaper reports Rose has now left the team just two games into the team's six-game road trip and will not accompany them for the remainder of it.

According to The Tribune, some athletes have returned to action in as soon as four to five weeks following surgery for such an injury, but the newspaper speculates given Rose's torn ACL on his left knee just over a year earlier the team in likely to be conservative.

Rose, 25, suffered the injury cutting on a non-contact play Friday night against the Blazers in Portland and left the arena on crutches. The Tribune reports privately team officials and teammates feared the worst-case scenario given the former league MVP is just 19 months off missing all of last season with a torn ACL.

The Bulls are already without starting guard Jimmy Butler, who is listed as week to week with a toe injury. Still, The Tribune reports, some within management breathed a sigh of relief given Rose's diagnosis because it avoids the franchise-altering event of a torn ACL.

"I know how much work he has put into his rehab and the type of person and player he is," coach Tom Thibodeau said. "So I feel for him because of all the things that he does and what they mean to our team."
