Steve Downie was signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins this offseason and immediately embraced the opportunity to defend Sidney Crosby. This has made Downie endearing to those who follow the Penguins.
With the Philadelphia Flyers in town, there was bound to be some spirited antics and that was the case in the first period when Zac Rinaldo finished a check on the Penguins captain.
Needless to say, this drew the attention of Downie.
Crosby's newest best friend sought out Rinaldo in an attempt to settle down the Fly--
Oh. Well.
That did not go according to plan.
And neither did the rest of the first period. The Penguins head into the first intermission trailing the Flyers, 2-1.
