The Destiny 2 beta on PS4 and Xbox One may be over, but there's another beta on the horizon for Destiny 2 on PC. The game's developer, Bungie, has announced when the beta will launch on PC and the specifications required to run it.
First off, here are some important dates when it comes to the Destiny 2 PC beta:
- Early Access: August 28
- Open Beta: August 29
- Beta Ends: August 31
Players can qualify for early access to the beta by pre-ordering the game from virtually any retailer, which will then grant a code to enter at Bungie's website, Bungie.net. With Bungie's partnership with Blizzard, the Destiny 2 beta will launch from the Battle.net application.
Now, onto the PC specs required for the beta. Ever since the PC version of Destiny 2 debuted, PC fans have been clamoring to know the specifications required to run Destiny 2. While Bungie did just release the details about the minimum and recommended specs for the Destiny 2 beta, this does not necessarily mean the same specs will apply to the final game. The developer also did not specify if these specs will allow the game to run at 60FPS and 4K.
With that caveat, here are the specs:
Recommended Spec
CPU
Intel - Core i5-2400
AMD - Ryzen R5 1600XGPU
GPU
Nvidia - GeForce GTX 970
AMD - Radeon R9 390
RAM

Minimum Spec
CPU
Intel - Core i3-3250
AMD - FX-4350

Nvidia - GeForce GTX 660 2GB
AMD - Radeon HD 7850 2GB

Along with that, Bungie also provided some extra information, especially to those who may be building a new gaming PC rig for the first time to play Destiny 2. For those interested in getting to that 60FPS and 4K, "Bungie's Event Machine" was able to run at those settings at events like E3 and the Destiny 2 Reveal Event. (Keep in mind that Bungie does have a partnership with Nvidia so all the recommended GPUs are from Nvidia.)
Recommended
CPU - Intel Core i5-7400
GPU - Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
Minimum
CPU - Intel Pentium G4560
GPU - Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 2GB
Bungie’s Event Machine
CPU – Intel i7-7700k
GPU – Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080Ti 11GB
The primary purpose for the beta on PC is likely the same as the goals of the console beta—to test the servers and backend systems of the game, while also serving as a small slice of data for sandbox balancing as well. It's unknown whether the PC beta will be different than that of the console beta as far as content and the game's sandbox (i.e. weapon balance, ability cooldown times, etc.), but it's likely that it will be exactly what consoles just experienced last week.
Destiny 2 will release on PS4 and Xbox One first on September 6, followed by the PC release on October 24.
