In early January, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd (née Abel Tesfaye) were first spotted having dinner in L.A., where they were pictured smooching throughout the evening. The couple then took their love worldwide, traveling to Italy together, making their couple debut at the Met Gala and showing off their romance on social media.

Over the summer, The Weeknd supported his girlfriend after the songstress underwent a kidney transplant due to her lupus battle. The "Starboy" crooner scheduled his performances around Gomez's surgery to spend more time with her, simultaneously earning our vote for Best Boyfriend of 2017.

But on Oct. 30, multiple sources confirmed to PEOPLE that the stars had split. "She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship," said an insider. "It's been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn't easy on them."

Here's a look back at their 10-month romance.

They spent holidays together.

You know it's real when you can't wait to hang with bae on Labor Day.

They never hid anything.

In an interview with On Air with Ryan Seacrest in June, Gomez revealed exactly why she chose to be in the open with her relationship. "It's really hard when I would want to spend so much time hiding things," she said. The "Bad Liar" singer explained a little further saying, "It's too much pressure, and I think everyone gets over everything eventually… I just want to be happy. If that's me just being myself, then I don't really care."

The Weeknd flew from Paris to spend time with Gomez for her birthday.

A source told PEOPLE that The Weeknd left Paris via private jet as soon as his Lollapalooza headlining set in Chicago was over on Saturday, July 22. He arrived in L.A. the following morning to spend the day with his girlfriend. All together now: Aww!

Gomez revealed she loved supporting The Weeknd.

"I love just being there and having someone's back," Gomez told SiriusXM's Morning Mash Up of "being supportive" after being prodded about joining the Weeknd for part of his tour. "It feels good. I haven't had that feeling in awhile."

Gomez gave her "heart and soul" to the person she loved.

Of course, the singer was referring to The Weeknd, whom she alluded to during a May interview with Miami's Power 96.5 FM. "I'm the kind of kind of girl that loves tremendously big. I just have always been that girl," she said. "I will give my heart and my soul to the person that I love. It's just how I operate. With that comes a lot, you know?"

The pair was down to work together.

Gomez is rumored to release new music very soon, and earlier this year, her then-boyfriend was said to be involved. Spotted on the Wikpedia page of songwriter Max Martin, on his discography list, is The Weeknd listed under Gomez's upcoming single "In Her Element," according to ELLE. The news understandably sent fans into a frenzy.

Gomez's family members were fans of the pairing.

Days after receiving a stamp of approval from her mom with a comment on Instagram, the "It Ain't Me" singer brought her relatives to The Weeknd's concert in Dallas.

They weren't afraid to show their affection for one another.

The 2017 Met Gala a.k.a. fashion prom officially introduced the world to the new couple, who packed on the PDA at the annual event. The "Starboy" crooner even scored Gomez's mom, Mandy Teefey's approval. "Glowing, smiling, looking health and equal love," she wrote, commenting on an Instagram of the new couple at the Met Gala. "Mama is happy XO."

Gomez was "really happy."

In the spring, te pair's budding relationship was showing no signs of slowing down, according to an insider who shared a look at the duo's dynamic. "They're doing great together," a Gomez source told PEOPLE. "Abel treats Selena really well and he makes her very happy."

They made the most out of every trip together.

Before hitting up South America together, Gomez and The Weeknd took a trip to the "Earned It" singer's hometown of Toronto, Canada. The couple were affectionate — kissing and holding hands — and spent their time in the city shopping and attending a private screening of Get Out.

Gomez was super supportive of his career.

The Revival singer attended several of his European concerts. On Feb. 26, the actress called The Weeknd her "baby" in a Snapchat video taken at his Zurich concert.

The week prior, at Amsterdam's Ziggo Dome, Gomez was spotted in the sound booth rocking out to her boyfriend's concert.

She even posted a photo of her feet kicked up at the VIP area on her Instagram story.

Their dates were super high-brow.

In January, the two were spotted walking hand-in-hand inside the Galleria dell'Accademia museum in Florence, Italy, stopping to view collections of Renaissance paintings, in addition to Michelangelo's David sculpture.

Though they went on a few silly dates, too.

One of their first public dates was at Dave and Buster's, just two days before they traveled to Italy. They arrived at 11 p.m., meeting up with Jaden Smith and French Montana, and they stayed until 3 a.m.

"They looked very happy. They had a blast with their friends," a source told PEOPLE about the pair, who were spotted holding hands.

They took their relationship to social media.

After the duo were spotted walking hand-in-hand inside the Galleria dell'Accademia museum in Florence during their Italian getaway, Gomez shared a video of The Weeknd on her Instagram page early that Monday morning.

The black-and-white video, ultimately deleted from the her account, showed him relaxing in a river boat as Gomez made plans with a woman off-camera. Gomez simply captioned the video with a heart-eyes emoji.

Gomez wasn't the only one showing some social media PDA. That Sunday, the "Starboy" singer shared a video of Gomez looking at a piece of art on his Instagram story. (He did not delete.)

The new romance rubbed some people the wrong way.

Shortly after news of the budding relationship broke, sources told PEOPLE that The Weeknd's ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid was upset by how quickly her former flame found a new romantic interest.

"Bella and Abel's split wasn't dramatic, but of course she's hurt and pissed that he's moved on so quickly with Selena," said an insider, who added that it was Hadid who ultimately pulled the plug on the duo's romance.

Gomez's ex Justin Bieber also seemed unhappy about the new Hollywood couple. Not long after the lovebirds went public, he had some harsh words about The Weeknd's music.

Asked by a TMZ cameraman if he'd listen to The Weeknd outside of Delilah in Los Angeles on Jan. 20, Bieber replied, "Hell no I can't listen to a Weeknd song."

Bieber added, "That s— is whack."
