There Came an Echo Brings Voice-Controlled Strategy to PS4 on May 31

A PlayStation 4 console exclusive, There Came an Echo is releasing on May 31 in North America and June 1 in Europe for $14.99 USD, developer Iridium Studios revealed today.

Starring Wil Wheaton, Laura Bailey, Yuri Lowenthal, and Ashly Burch, There Came an Echo is a real-time strategy game where you can use the voice control system to direct units around the battlefield. The commands range from standard ones (“All units, move to alpha three!”) to custom ones you enter yourself (“Johnny Depp, do that crazy walk thing to alpha three!”).

Voice commands aren’t required, but as Iridium Studios CEO Jason Wishnov says, “They’re definitely the way to play. You won’t be handling the minutiae one normally might in a shooter: firing, aiming, reloading, holding a sprint button… the advanced A.I. takes care of all that. You’re the field commander, looking at the larger picture of the battlefield to position your units effectively and set them up for victory.”

Wishnov adds that porting the game over to PS4 was hard, but “after some significant period of time, and the help of Sony’s engineers, we managed to bring the exceptionally advanced voice recognition in There Came an Echo to life on the PlayStation 4.”
