Cordell E. Johnson, 77, of Halstad, MN, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Essentia Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Cordell Ernest Johnson, the son of Ernest and Ruth (Lokken) Johnson, was born in Churchs Ferry, ND, on May 2, 1940. In his younger years the family lived in California and North Dakota. In 1955, they made their home in Moorhead, where Cordell finished his education. As a young man, he worked as a lumberjack in Northern Minnesota. In 1958, he entered the US Army, where he served overseas in Germany.

On August 3, 1963, Cordell married Lorelei Ikel, in Moorhead, where they made their home. Cordell worked at American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, as a truck driver for Snoboy/Gamble-Robinson, Booth Delivery, E.W. Wylie and as an owner operator semi-driver, until poor health forced his retirement in 2002.

In 2006, the couple moved to Halstad, MN, where they currently live. Cordell will be remembered as an outgoing person, who was always ready to help others. He was an excellent auto mechanic, loved to barbeque and play cards. He loved to joke around and visit with others. He truly loved his wife and family.

Cordell is survived by his wife Lorelei, Halstad; children Denise (Daniel) Villanueva, Moorhead and Curtis Johnson, Syracuse, NY; grandchildren Krista and Adam Williams and Steven and Teresa Johnson; great-grandchildren Henry, Hanna and Haley Lepard; siblings Lester Johnson, Halstad, Esther Stenzel, Sioux Falls, SD, Darlene (Don) Reiter, Fergus Falls, MN, Rodney (Cheryl) Johnson, Fargo, Sharon (Kenny) Gray, Golden Valley, ND and Randy Johnson, Moorhead. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother James.

A memorial service for Cordell will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 1 PM in Trinity Lutheran Church, 210 7th Street South, Moorhead.
