Two dead in crash north of Cadott

A man and a woman from Illinois have died in a crash north of Cadott.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said in a release Wednesday night that the victims are an 85-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman, both from McHenry, IL. The statement did not release their names pending family notification.

The crash happened just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on State Hwy. 27. Troopers said the woman was driving north on highway 27. She went into the southbound lane "for unknown reasons," and continued into a ditch on the west side of the road. The vehicle ended up hitting a culvert and a concrete wall. No other vehicles were involved.

Crews found the woman unconscious. She died at the scene. The man was flown to an Eau Claire hospital, where he later died of his injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
