LAGUNA BEACH — A single-vehicle crash into a utility pole caused a three-hour shutdown of Laguna Canyon Road in both directions, near El Toro Road, Wednesday morning, Jan. 16.

The crash, in the southbound lane, was reported at about 10:10 a.m.

Capt. Jeff Calvert said the accident was rain-related and that the driver was uninjured. Southern California Edison responded immediately, Calvert said, adding that he knew of no reported outages.

He said the roadway was expected to open by 1 p.m.

In 2018, there were four incidents that resulted in either full or partial closures on Laguna Canyon Road.

On April 8, a drunk driver hit a pole resulting in a partial closure. On Oct. 22, a driver fell asleep and hit a pole, the road was partially closed. On Nov. 16, the Laguna Canyon Road was completely closed after a vehicle collision where the car and nearby hillside burst into flames.

On Dec. 18, a traffic collision required extrication of the occupants. The road was partially closed.
