The Chico State Women’s soccer swept the weekend’s action to remain atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings. The Wildcats (3-0-1) beat Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday and East Bay State on Sunday.

Chico 1, Monterey Bay 0

Senior defender Korie Bozart’s goal in the 28th minute was all Wildcat goalkeeper Brenna Maier would need to help the steer the visitors to a win.  Bozart and her fellow defenders proceeded to make that lead stood in a 1-0 victory at Cal State Monterey Bay Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

Nadiah Martinez’s corner kick was headed out of the box by an Otters defender, but Bozart pounced on in and ripped a shot into the right upper-V from just outside of the 18-yard box for her first goal of the season and the sixth of her career.

After the Wildcat defender handed her team a lead, she and her fellow backline mates, Abbie Jones, and Jamie Ikeda, along with midfielder Sarah Emigh provided a stout front for Maier. The former PV and Butte star, recorded her third shutout in five starts this season and leads all CCAA goalkeepers.

The win marked the first time in the program’s the Wildcats (3-0-4 overall and 2-0-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association) have gone unbeaten through their first seven matches. Cal State Monterey Bay dipped to 2-4-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the CCAA.

Chico 2, East Bay 1

The Wildcats won their third straight Sunday, beating Cal State East Bay 2-1 in Hayward, to stretch their season-opening unbeaten streak to eight.

Aiden Williams’ first collegiate goal gave the Wildcats the lead in the first half and Jordan Doukakis doubled it in the second as the Wildcats moved into a tie at the top of the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s table one third of the way through the conference slate.  The win moved Chico State to 4-0-4 overall and 3-0-1 in the CCAA and dropped East Bay to 5-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the CCAA.

Williams’ first collegiate goal came on a header off cross from sophomore Kylie Martinez in the 44rd minute.  Some 12 minutes later, Doukakis  pushed the lead to 2-0 on a pass from Susanna Garcia.
But that lead was cut in half by Hayward’s Chace Miguel just four minutes later on rebound off a corner kick. Wildcats goalkeeper Vic Graham stopped Miguel’s shot bu it bounced right back to Miguel, who beat Graham for the goal.

Chico State is on the road on Friday against at Cal State San Bernardino and Sunday at Pomona. The Sunday match will end a four-match road trip for Chico.
