Officials identify three men involved in fatal helicopter crash in St. Charles Parish

ST. CHARLES PARISH, LA (WVUE) - The St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Department has identified the three men involved in Sunday's helicopter crash that left one of the men dead and the other two injured. The crash occurred around 11 a.m. in a marsh area off of Magnolia Ridge Road in Boutte.

According to police, the deceased man is identified as 33-year-old Ryan Lamont Cardwell of Watonga, Oklahoma. He worked for a company called Air2, which is contracted by Entergy to perform work on Entergy transmission lines.

The other two individuals where identified as 33-year-old crewman Chance Mills of Missouri and 38-year-old pilot Kenneth Gestal of Florida. Mills suffered what appeared to be severe injuries while Gestal's injuries were considered less severe. Mills and Gestal were immediately located and transported to a local hospital for treatment. Officials later located Cardwell's body.

First responders had to rely on air boat, all-terrain vehicles and helicopter to reach the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
