COOSADA, AL (WSFA) - The long-time mayor of the town of Coosada in Elmore County is announcing that he is stepping down.

When Mayor Frank Houston took over the mayor's office 31 years ago, the town's budget was just $2,000. Today, it stands at more than $100,000.

Mayor Houston, who is 74, simply says it's time for him to go.

The town council is expected to appoint an interim mayor in November to serve out the remainder of Houston's term.

Houston is only the second mayor to serve Coosada.
