Sara Schaefer is the First News Weekend Morning Anchor and Reporter for NewsChannel 15. She started at WANE in May 2016.

Sara began her broadcasting career at WANE’s sister station WTHI-TV in Terre Haute. There she was the nightside reporter. Sara was responsible for finding the lead, hard-news story on a nightly basis. Finding what impacted people most at city or county council meeting, school board, and various other meetings was a regular task. Sara was also a fill-in anchor at WTHI.

Sara is a Fort Wayne native. She went to Most Precious Blood Middle School then Bishop Dwenger High School. For college Sara attended Ball State University. There she double majored in Journalism and Telecommunications. During college Sara was part of the BSU at the Games as a feature reporter. For the immersive learning project students traveled to London to cover the 2012 Olympic games. Work from many students on every team gained local and national attention. The personal and professional experience gained is invaluable.

Outside of the office, Sara loves anything involving the outdoors. Sara has a passion for nature and animals. She also loves anything involving music and live shows- send her ideas for some good venues! Standup comedy too! She played volleyball throughout her life and also enjoys sports.

Sara is very close with her family (including the four-legged members Matty, Charlie, Caboodle and unnamed but loved barn cats) and is thrilled to be back home with them working at the station she grew up watching.
