Armed jewel robbers jailed for terrifying £230,000 Glasgow Argyll Arcade heist batter guards behind bars in Lanarkshire prison

Notorious thugs Jason Yendall and Aaron Brannan have had extra time added to their sentences for thumping prison officers at HMP Shotts

TWO notorious armed robbers caged for a £230,000 jewellery heist on Glasgow's Argyll Arcade have been involved in an attack on guards at a Lanarkshire jail.

Jason Yendall, 32, and Aaron Brannan, 26, attacked staff in HMP Shotts after officers tried to break up a fight involving the serial thugs.

Yendall seized guard Steven Elliot, pulled his body and violently struggled with him while Brannan flew at Paul Pritchard, punching him on his head and body.

They were eventually taken back to their cells but continued to shout threats to the guards.

Neither officers required medical attention but prison bosses launched disciplinary procedures against the thugs.

Yendall was removed from Shotts and sent to HMP Addiewell where he was placed in segregation following the attack last July. Brannan was also confined and had all privileges removed.

The pair, of Manchester, admitted the assaults at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

Sheriff David Bicket caged them both for four months to run concurrently to their their sentences for the 2014 raid on Glasgow's Argyll Arcade.

Depute fiscal Morag McClintock said: "Around 10am staff heard sounds of a disturbance and when they arrived they had concerns that required them to separate the accused.

"While they were transferring them to their cells, they shouted and swore and told the staff they were getting done in.

"They were not cautioned or charged and no medical treatment was thankfully required."

Yendall's lawyer John Good told the court his client wanted to move to a prison in England after finding life in Scotland tough.

He said: "As a result of this incident he was transferred to Addiewell and was placed in segregation for two weeks as the prison began their own form of discipline.

"His earliest release date is January 2024 and after this he has no further cases pending.

"He hopes to move to Forest Bank prison because he finds it difficult to be in prison in this area and he has few visitors but still speaks with his mum."

Andy Iles, defending Brannan, said: "His earliest release date is June 2022 but there was a disagreement here and I'm sure you are aware of the environment within Shotts.

"He was also subject to a punishment and was put in isolation for 24 hours and had no television or visitors but he pleads guilty at the earliest opportunity."

Yendall and Brannan were jailed for their role in the Argyll Arcade robbery and for a separate £20,000 Edinburgh bank robbery with three other men the following month.

In 2016, both had another year added to their sentences after admitting battering machine gun killer Cadil Huseen, 26, in a racist attack behind bars.

Last year Brannan admitted having a mobile phone in his cell which he claimed he was using to call family in England.
