DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — “No water. No ventilation. Very high temperatures. Just horrible conditions and it’s not acceptable.” said Brian Weltge the President and CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Dayton.

Weltge says the investigation is ongoing and the kittens are doing much better, all thanks to good samaritans.

“We are indebted to people who report these things to us because we would not have known had someone not said to check this out,” said Weltge.

The cats were found at Great Value Storage,  located off North Smithville Road.

Agents could smell the horror before opening the door.

“Nothing surprises us anymore and that’s sad. But again, there is a lot of great people in this community who love animals. Then there are people who don’t and don’t know how to care for animals properly,” said Weltge.

The humane society is a no-kill, non-profit organization. They plan to help the kittens find a new home, should the courts move forward with charges.

If you are wondering how you can help, Weltge says there is a specific fund for that.

“Our rescue fund is in place to grow and help animals just like this. You can go to the website or call us to get access to it. The fund helps us accumulate money to help animals just like this,” said Weltge.

The investigation is ongoing.
