A Campbell County man died following a multi-vehicle crash in Lynchburg on Monday.

Police say around 6:44 a.m., officers along with personnel from Lynchburg Fire and EMS responded to the intersection of Graves Mill Road and Old Graves Mill Road for reports of a three-vehicle crash.

Officers say a Chevrolet pickup truck was at the Graves Mill Road intersection in the left turn lane stopped for a red light when a Chevrolet Impala ran into the rear of the pickup truck.

The truck was knocked through the intersection and the Impala veered left into the oncoming traffic lane where it had a head-on collision with a Mitsubishi Outlander, police say.

Aid was rendered to those involved in the crash by citizens until emergency personnel could arrive. But, the driver of the Impala, 21-year-old Dante Demarco Poindexter, of Campbell County died at the scene due to injuries received in the crash. The other two drivers were transported from the scene with non-life threatening injuries.

A fourth vehicle approached the crash scene and veered left to avoid the three vehicle crash and struck the curb and embankment. The driver of that vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
