Governor stresses on women’s empowerment

Tuesday, 14 July 2020 | PNS | Ranchi

Governor Droupadi Murmu on Monday urged the males to become emotional and honest in accepting the talents and caliber of their female. She said that a lot of work is needed in women empowerment and in this connection. The Governor was speaking at a webinar on the topic ‘Gender Bias and Stereotyping, Gender Equality and Women’s Right’ organized by Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ). The webinar was attended by CUJ Vice-Chancellor, Nand Kumar Yadav ‘Indu’, SNDT University Mumbai professor Shashikala Banjari, Additional Secretary UGC, Urmila, BPSMV Sonipat Sushma Yadav among others.

The Governor on the occasion also talked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan. The campaign of the Government of India aims to generate awareness and improve the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls in Country. The scheme also aims to address the issue of declining child sex ration image (CSR).

The Governor claimed that during the 4th Conference on Women organized by UNO it was accepted that without bringing equality among women and male human rights and social justice cannot be attained. Murmu quoting Swami Vivekanand the great social reformer and philosopher said, “Swami had said that no society can develop ignoring women sex.  Developing society without taking women sex is just like a bird flying with single wings.”

The Governor said that Indian society is male dominated society, so we have to change this mindset. “We have to work taking into account both male and female. In the last few years a lot of work has been done in women empowerment and their social, economic condition has improved. Girls’ interest in education has improved.”  The Governor urged the women sex to excel in all sectors. She talked about the various schemes launched by Union Government for making women sex economically stable and self-help groups for women.

Few years back Grihalaxmi, a self-help group (SHG) from State, was lauded for its efforts towards eradicating child labour from Goilkera block in West Singhbhum district by the Union ministry of rural development.

While on one hand the Governor lauded women schemes and Self Help Groups (SHG), she felt sorry for increasing cases of atrocities against women. She said, “Atrocities against women are regrettable. Such types of incidents bring a bad name to the entire society.”

The Governor on the occasion also cautioned about Corona pandemic urging people to take preventive measures against the infection.
