Durham, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 12/06/2016 -- In August 2016 book fans were delighted to discover the newest book exploring special aspects of Near Death Experiences (NDE). The International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) published its first book in collaboration with the authors of the book The Self Does Not Die, a collection of 104 detailed case studies of verified near death experiences. Current sales data indicates this material is worthy of use as an academic text.

This book stimulated discussions of believers and skeptics alike who explore the reality of near-death experiences. Readers will be excited to review the proof analyzed in each of these accounts. Dr. Eben Alexander III provides an in-depth review at his website www.ebenalexander.com. His review states "The Self Does Not Die is an important and timely book that offers significant empirical support to the emerging scientific view that consciousness is fundamental in the universe, and that the soul exists and does not depend on the physical brain for its conscious expression."

The positive reviews on Amazon also acknowledge that even though many of the cases used for assessment are well known, it is the critical review for credibility which makes this book unique. Verifying the near death experience and actions that occurred is often virtually impossible. This unique book critically reviews many of these accounts and includes only those that have been verified by third parties.

NDEs that have been verified by third parties provide the best evidence of the apparent separation of consciousness from the physical body during NDEs. These cases strongly suggest that consciousness exists independent of the body and, by implication, survives death. These cases are not simply anecdotes—stories repeated from one person to another—but rather cases that have been studied and thoroughly vetted.

In 2013, NDE researchers Titus Rivas, Anny Dirven and Rudolf Smit from the Netherlands published a book in Dutch which described 78 cases of veridical perceptions and other verified paranormal aspects of near-death experiences. IANDS members worked closely with these Dutch authors over the past year to produce this book, The Self Does Not Die, adding additional cases and completing the translation of the evidence regarding the realities of these spiritual experiences.

The book was made available for sale at the 2016 IANDS "Explore the Extraordinary" public conference in Orlando Florida. One of the original authors, Rudolf Smit, discussed how this book provides important analysis of cases independently verified to researchers by another person. Jan Holden, Ed.D., the Editor of IANDS Journal of Near-Death Studies was the editor of the English edition. NDE researchers Robert and Suzanne Mays wrote the Foreword to the English edition.

A review of this book is available at www.IANDS.org and the book can be purchased at Amazon.com.

About IANDS
IANDS is the informational and networking center in the field of near-death studies, the first organization in the world devoted to exploring near-death and similar experiences. Members are researchers, laypeople, academics, and caregivers; experiencers and non-experiencers; professionals and the general public; from every continent but the Antarctic.

Like IANDS itself, the Association's publications and programs are unique. The quarterly newsletter, Vital Signs, and the scholarly, peer-reviewed Journal of Near-Death Studies provide information and intelligent discussion generally not available anywhere else.

Around the US and Canada, 50 or so support groups meet regularly, with more in Europe, Australia, and Asia. For its periodic conferences in North America, IANDS pulls in top speakers, experiencers, researchers, and interested people for education, sharing, networking, and friendship.
