Peached Tortilla, the Southern-Asian food truck-turned-restaurant in Allandale, is publishing a cookbook. Get Peached: Recipes and Stories From Peached Tortilla is being published by Sterling Epicure. It’s expected to publish sometime in spring 2019.

Peached Tortilla’s impending cookbook will focus on Southern-Asian dishes. Recipes will include pearl meatballs, Hainanese chicken and rice, banh mi tacos, and the signature Japajam burgers. It’s safe to presume it will also include kimchi queso too.

“Originally, I wasn’t planning to write a book,” owner/chef Eric Silverstein told Eater, but a literary agent convinced him otherwise. He was looking to write a memoir, but decided to switch to a memoir/cookbook instead.

“I’ll be writing about my childhood and early influences, in cooking from my mom to living in Japan,” Silverstein said. “I’ll also talk about my transition from law into the food truck business, and my struggle to get into a restaurant.” He added, “There was a very long, rough period,” before he opened Peached Tortilla. “Hopefully, this will inspire other food truck entrepreneurs to hang in there.”

Owner Eric Silverstein, who was raised in Japan and Atlanta, switched from law to cooking when he opened Peached Tortilla as a food truck in 2010. He opened the brick and mortar restaurant on Burnet Road in 2014. He followed that with venue Peached Social House, in 2016, which often hosts pop-up food events like the restaurant's popular insane milkshakes.

Peached Tortilla is also working on opening a location of the restaurant in the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, set to open sometime in 2018.

As for other Austin restaurant cookbooks, Vietnamese restaurant and French bakery Elizabeth Street Cafe came out with its own book in October. Easy Tiger’s head baker David Normal is also working on his own bread cookbook, Bread on the Table, which will be published in February 2019.
