The product: Kindle Paperwhite E-reader

Why we love it: A new electronic e-reader from Amazon.

Dubbed the Paperwhite, the compact device’s screen boasts twice as many pixels as previous models, so it has a clearer, more readable display. The e-reader’s, well, readability is also said to be improved by its “Bookerly” font, which is exclusive to the Kindle reader and is designed to provide less eye strain.

The glare-free screen has day and evening light settings, making it easy to read in any light, its battery charge is said to last weeks, and it’s lighter than most paperback books — yet can contain thousands of titles.

While it may take some a bit longer to come over to the digital side when it comes to reading books and magazines, once they do, they’ll likely love how convenient carrying around and using a device like the Kindle Paperwhite can be.

Our tester was pleased with how easy it was to use, load books on, hold, read and, all-around enjoy.

Plus, the subscription to Kindle Unlimited, which costs $9.99 per month and provides access to more than 800,000 books, is a pretty nice perk of going the electronic-over-paper route, too.

The price: $139.99

The retailer: Amazon.ca
