Rangers claim Duffy, promote Jurado to AA

The Rangers have claimed infielder Matt Duffy off of waivers from Houston, and have promoted pitcher Ariel Jurado to AA Frisco

The Texas Rangers have claimed Matt Duffy off of waivers from the Houston Astros.  Duffy, 27, is a 3B/1B who hits righthander and has 12 major league plate appearances.  After a solid year for ÀÀA Fresno last year, Duffy has slumped this year, putting up a sub-700 OPS.  He gives the Rangers some depth at Round Rock.  With Cesar Ramos having been DFA'd yesterday, the Rangers had an open roster spot on the 40, and we know those aren't allowed to stay vacant for long.

Meanwhile, the Rangers also announced yesterday that Ariel Jurado has been promoted from high-A High Desert to AA Frisco.  Jurado, 20, has a 3.86 ERA in 79.1 IP for the Mavericks, and remarkably, has allowed just four home runs all year (3 in a recent game).  Jurado joins his 2015 Hickory rotation-mates Yohander Mendez and Luis Ortiz in Frisco, though Ortiz is current on the d.l.
