There are some signs of life in the Northeast Florida entertainment scene, with some venues starting to book new shows and others rescheduling.
Downtown Jacksonville’s historic Florida Theatre, which has shut down all public performances since mid-March in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, has announced several new bookings, all of which are scheduled for 2021.
The theater announced that it is bringing in Motown legends the Temptations and the Four Tops on Jan. 22, 2021. ABBA Mania, a tribute to the Swedish pop group, play on Feb. 25, 2021. Who’s Live Anyway, an improv comedy show featuring Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Jeff B. Davis and Joel Murray, will play at the theater the following night.
The Little River Band with the Lords of 52nd Street are booked for March 6, 2021, and Get the Led Out, a Led Zeppelin tribute band, is booked for March 12, 2021.
At the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, staff is starting to return to work. The venue’s box office will reopen Thursday to deal with ticket sales and refunds for the amphitheater and the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. It will be open Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Daily’s Place announced Tuesday that the Doobie Brothers have rescheduled their summer tour to next year. The band had been scheduled to bring its 50th anniversary tour to the venue next month. The show has been rescheduled to July 21, 2021. The Tedeschi Trucks Band also postponed its June show at the venue, which clears the slate of all shows at Daily’s in June and July. The next show scheduled to take place at the venue is by Blackberry Smoke on Aug. 22.
The Orange Park Community Theatre is going ahead with plans to put on “Singing in the Rain.” Ten performances of the musical are scheduled, beginning June 12. The theater will open at 50 percent capacity.
