George Clinton, one of the masterminds behind the P-Funk style of music, recently praised the musician Childish Gambino for his newly-released body of work, Awaken, My Love!
Childish has been vocal about the funk groups that influenced his sound for his November release, such as Parliament, Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone and The Isley Brothers. Now, one of the people instrumental to CG’s musical experiment is sending his good graces.
“I just heard it one time and I like the songs,” said Clinton when interviewed about his appreciation for ‘Bino’s latest effort. “I’m aware of his music and know he’s into P-Funk, so I know it’s going to be some good music. I haven’t had a chance to get all the way into it. When I did hear it, it sounded like a cross between P-Funk and Prince influence. I’m proud that he’s into the funk and glad him and others are bringing some new funk back.”
Clinton’s upcoming projects include the first Parliament album since 2014, titled Medicaid Fraud Dog, and he’ll be embarking on his upcoming Mardi Gras Madness Tour beginning in February. Check out the full list of dates below.
