Will 13 Reasons Why season 3 face delay over cast negotiations? Don’t count on it

13 Reasons Why season 2

13 Reasons Why season 3 has already been ordered, but there have been certainly questions as to whether or not production would begin as planned.

According to a new report from Deadline, the main cast for the Netflix drama series are seeking pay raises for the latest batch of episodes — something that is widely considered to be an industry standard. If the first two seasons of your show are extremely successful, typically that does mean that you end up getting more money in turn for the third. Nothing is different about what is going on here.

Of course, we’re sure that some other outlets are spinning the whole ordeal to make it out to be probably worse than it will be. While cast negotiations are in fact an ordeal, we don’t foresee it being any problem when it comes to filming starting up on Monday. There’s a good chance that everyone shows up to work even if the deals aren’t done, especially since there is some positive movement in that direction. Given that so little in this situation is out of the ordinary, we don’t foresee there being anything to keep the show from moving forward as planned.

The larger question that we have, separate from this particular series alone, is the budget of Netflix itself. Given how much money it routinely spends on its original programming across the board, we already have our concerns about a potential raise in subscription prices down the road. They’re in a spot where at this point, viewers are going to expect them to keep handing out big bucks to create high-quality shows; yet, these same viewers will express outrage if they hike their prices. Maybe all of this is a significant stretch of time down the road, or maybe there is a part of us trying to mentally prepare for it now.

When it comes to 13 Reasons Why in general, the good news here is that if you love the show, there’s nothing to worry about. The new episodes should come your way at some point in 2019.
