A PORT Elizabeth-born DJ, Chuma Kimberley, widely known as Blendish the Selector, will be taking her booth to various local venues this month.
In commemoration of Women’s month, Kimberley has taken it upon herself to share her passion and talent for music with others.
“I believe we (women) can do greater things if we can work together as a collective and empower ourselves, and refrain from putting each other down. My hustle and your hustle aren’t the same and it shouldn’t matter, because the end goal is to provide for our families.
“We also need the men in our communities to help support women-based initiatives and help protect our children from what the world has become. Women’s Day should not be a daily practice.”
Blendish will be celebrating women on a musical note along with other female DJs in PE through the month of August. She said her love for old-school R&B and soul has brought her to finally share her passion for music with the masses and has gained a lot of support around the city.
She has been mentored by Aubrey the DJ, Docta Musiq, Afro jazz saxophone player, Lefa Mosea, as well as BlaqBlend Experience marketing director, Siyanda Jemsana.
Kimberley is very grateful to these men for playing such a role in her DJ career and influencing her to follow her passion.
She thanked her supporters and is very overwhelmed by the impact she has made in some of the women’s lives that were ready to give up on their dreams but chose to soldier on.
Catch her Blendish Soul Sessions at Ekhupholeni Cocktail Lounge in Zwide on Friday, August 9 at 14:00, and at Kwa-Jwara in Uitenhage on Sunday, August 11 at 14:00. For bookings contact blaqblend@gmail.com or Chuma at 073 079 7287/064 464 1250.
