Man Let Pets Freeze To Death In Outdoor Container: SPCA

BREAKING: SPCA officials are calling it a "blatant act of animal cruelty."

EAST PATCHOGUE, NY – A 29-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty for letting his pets freeze to death in an outdoor storage container, the Suffolk County SPCA said Thursday morning.

According to SPCA detectives, William Rodriquez, of East Patchogue, allowed his four reptiles, including a ball python and a Savannah monitor lizard, to freeze to death. The SPCA called it a "blatant act of animal cruelty."

Rodriquez is charged with four counts of animal cruelty. Each charge is punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. If convicted, Rodriquez will be required by law to register with the Suffolk County Animal Abuse Registry.

Rodriquez will be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on June 12.
