'We grew apart': Diff'rent Strokes star Todd Bridges divorcing wife of 14 years

It seems like it is the end of the road for Diff'rent Strokes star Todd Bridges 14 year marriage.

For the 47-year-old has filed for divorce from his wife Dori, though according to the actor they remain good friends and simply 'grew apart.'

The former sitcom favourite tied the knot in 1998, and they have a 13-year-old son together named Spencir.

Making the announcement on Twitter, he said: 'I'm going to beat the media to this me and my wife our divorcing our lives are going different directions with we remain good friends.

'We have a child and we both have his best interests at heart and know this is best for him and us thank you all for understanding.

'She's a great mother I'm glad to have had the years to know her and have a great kid with her as we know, people grow apart and we did.'

His son has followed in his father's footsteps to become a child actor himself, and appeared in the 2007 film Daddy Day Camp as well as an episode of iCarly.

Todd was the first African-American child actor to have a recurring role on a iconic 70s show The Waltons, and also appeared on Little House on the Prairie, Roots" and Fish.

But he owes his fame to his role as Arnold Jackson's older brother Willis  on the wildly successful Diff'rent Strokes, which ran for eight years from 1978

In the fish out of water show the brothers were taken in by wealthy businessman Phillip Drummond and his daughter Kimberly.

Work has largely dried up in recent years, though he did appear on reality series Skating with Celebrities and Celebrity Boxing.

Todd is also making a cameo appearance as himself in Adam Sandler comedy That's My Boy, which is released next month.

He went on to write a memoir Killing Willis, in which he detailed his struggle with fame, criminal charges and drug addiction.

In the late 80s he ended up addicted crack cocaine and was arrested for the attempted murder of a Los Angeles drug dealer, though he was later acquitted.
