UPDATE: SCE extends potential public safety power shutoffs through Tuesday

UPDATE: Southern California Edison has announced that the 'Public Safety Power Shutoffs' will be extended through Tuesday, July 16th. The time period affected by the shutoffs will be between noon and 6 p.m.


UPDATE: Southern California Edison said that Bakersfield and Bear Valley area customers are no longer being considered for a public safety shut off. Officials say that Bodfish, Lake Isabella, and Wofford Heights are still under watch.


Southern California Edison has notified around 3,000 of its customers of a potential power outage this afternoon and possibly Friday.

According to a message sent out by the utility company, a forecast of strong winds with potential fire activity in parts of Kern County officials said they are "exploring options for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff."

According to, SCE the communities that will be potentially impacted by the power shutoff will be Bakersfield, Bodfish, Lake Isabella and Wofford Heights.

SCE says its crews and meteorologists are continuing to monitor conditions in other regions that might be affected by dangerous high wind.
