The new spiritual leader at Temple Dor Dorim in Weston also happens to be its first female rabbi.

Rabbi Marci Bloch, who began her tenure at the Reform synagogue on July 1, said, “I’m very excited to join the Dor Dorim family.”

“It’s obviously a difficult time to be joining a community because of the pandemic, but we’re learning together all different kinds of ways to reach out to people, and I look forward to meeting everyone.”

Bloch previously served as the senior rabbi of Temple Beth Orr in Coral Springs. Following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in nearby Parkland, she was actively involved in healing efforts to the community. She also served as associate rabbi of Congregation B’nai Israel in Boca Raton for 12 years. Before that, she served as assistant rabbi at Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation in Indiana for two years after her ordination from Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 2003.

Bloch said, regarding her goals for Dor Dorim, “I think for rabbis around the country, goals have changed.”

“Right now, my goals are to create connections with the members, build relationships and help people and spiritually uplift them during this really difficult time in our world.”
