Ex-Dallas Cowboys quarterback and Fox sportscaster Troy Aikman has split from his wife of over a decade, he announced on Tuesday.
“This has been a difficult decision for Rhonda and me, but after 10 years of marriage, we have decided to separate,” the former football star confirmed in a statement to The Dallas Morning News. “We remain deeply committed to our children and respectfully ask that you honor our family’s privacy during this period of adjustment.”
Aikman met his wife when she worked as a publicist for the Cowboys, and the couple married in 2000. They have two daughters together, and Rhonda Aikman also has a daughter from a previous marriage, the paper reported.
Despite the couple’s long marriage, it seems trouble may have been lurking for some time.
Property records show Rhonda Aikman purchased a home close to the family’s residence back in November, The Associated Press reported.
Aikman, who is scheduled to call the Super Bowl on Feb. 6, did not return the AP’s calls for comment.
