Victoria, 50
My Dating Past?
I was married for nine years and we separated in 2015. Since then I’ve had a couple of relationships, but nothing serious.
I met one boyfriend on a dating website and another on an app, but I only dip in and out of the online dating world.
Victoria, 50, is a marketing consultant and has been separated for five years with twin daughters and a son
Life is manic with kids, a job and a dog to walk. My children like the fact I’m dating and would love me to meet Mr Right.
Pre-Date Nerves?
I don’t do nerves. Weirdly the only time I remember being nervous was when I sat my driving test.
First Impressions?
When we met two weeks ago I arrived at the restaurant on time, but after 20 minutes, there was still no sign of my date, so I ordered a glass of prosecco.
Almost an hour later, Gerard arrived blaming bad traffic. He ordered a double brandy and insisted the waiter bring him a bandage for a papercut.
Easy To Talk To?
It will be interesting to know what Gerard learned about me because the conversation was pretty much all about him.
He showed me pictures of his whole family — even his grandfather and great uncles!
Embarrassing Moments?
When our starter arrived, Gerard joined his hands in prayer and said grace but I tucked into my tempura prawns.
I’m not a believer and was absolutely starving by this point.
When I returned from the loo, he announced that he’d asked the staff to hold our mains as he’d ordered more prawns.
I was a bit irritated as I told Gerard I had limited time.
Did Sparks Fly?
No. We are very different people. I have a positive outlook whereas Gerard told me he has lost trust in women.
Apparently his exes had both been unfaithful. The final straw for me was when I discovered he’d worked for Donald Trump.
Did You Kiss?
No. I left Gerard finishing off his main course as I had to go. As I went to leave, he wanted to do the coronavirus-approved elbow bump.
What do you think he thought of you?
I didn’t say much because I didn’t have the opportunity. He did tell me I was in good shape.
Even though I told him I wouldn’t see him again, Gerard insisted I take his number.
Would your family like him?
They would know straight away that he wasn’t for me.
Gerard, 52
My Dating Past?
I’ve had two marriages which ended in divorce and have had my heart broken in the past, so truthfulness and honesty are important to me.
I’m a compassionate romantic, but I don’t want to be taken for granted.
Gerard, 52, is an entrepreneur and is separated with three sons aged three, 23, and 33
Pre-Date Nerves?
I was nervous. It’s been a while since I’ve been on a date and I hoped she would fancy me.
First Impressions? Victoria (I think that’s what her name was) is a lovely person. She’s in good shape, too. She looked stunning in her black jeans and cream blouse.
Easy To Talk To?
I did most of the talking because Victoria was a bit withdrawn. I got the impression her past relationships were disappointing.
I suspect she needs to let go a little. It doesn’t help she doesn’t venture much outside of her social circle, whereas I have lived all over the world.
I even worked with Donald Trump, organising his PR for beauty pageants.
Embarrassing Moments?
After lots of tempura prawns, I had salmon, mash, green beans and salad. Victoria ordered scallops and insisted on a side dish, too.
She also ordered a number of alcoholic drinks. After five years of not drinking, I had two brandies on the rocks.
Did Sparks Fly?
There wasn’t enough time for any flirting or chemistry to develop and Victoria constantly reminded me she had to collect her children from school.
I’d organised a babysitter for my son when he finished school so I didn’t have to rush off. If we’d have had more time, we would have got to know one another better.
Did You Kiss?
No, we abstained.
What do you think she thought of you?
I’m not sure, we didn’t get a chance to get to know one another. Victoria was clockwatching and I was still eating when she left.
I ended up chatting to another guy who was also on his own.
Would your family like her?
If I like someone then my family will trust me and like them, too.
