PONCA CITY, Okla. –  A Ponca City family forced out of their home by a mysterious gas leak is no longer fighting the battle alone.

Chris Walls has been living with his family of six in a motel room for the last month.

They come home every day, pack the next days’ clothes and try to cook supper.

Then they play with their dogs, feed their ducks and do it all over again.

“This is home,” said Chris Walls. “It’s a mess right now, but it’s home.”

The family is waiting on the corporation commission to find the source of the methane leak so they can figure out how to fix it.

Until then, Oklahoma State Rep. Steve Vaughn is working to find a house for the family.

He even offered to take care of their pets.

Vaughn said, “They have dogs and some of these places don’t allow dogs. But I have farms and I have pens and I have dogs and just bring them over!”

Chris hopes the help will ease the stress on his family until they can come home for good.

“Life is a rush right now,” he said. “Everything’s going so fast, yet so slow.”

The corporation commission says since their workers have not found a well yet, they are hiring a contractor to try to vent the gas away from the house.
