MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Police Department will hold its annual Junior Police Academy starting on Monday and going until Friday for the rising sixth graders from the north precinct.

The Junior Police Academy offers an opportunity for positive relationships to develop between local law enforcement officers and the youth of the community. It also provides an environment conducive to improve interactions for the students with each other and law enforcement, in a safe, educational and fun setting, MPD officials say.

Law enforcement officials from a number of agencies will speak on their particular areas of expertise at the event. Officials will also speak with the young cadets after presentations.

The training week will end at noon on June 30 with a graduation ceremony at the Armory Learning Arts Center located at 1018 Madison Ave. Graduating cadets will receive a certificate for completing the program.
