TM Prosthodontics Explains Common Symptoms That Require a Visit to a Dental Specialist

Having superior oral health is an excellent indicator of overall health, and it is the best way to keep diseases at bay, states TM Prosthodontics. There are a lot of things that contribute to a healthy mouth, and it is important for people to consider the aspects that help in the prevention of oral and gum diseases.

Because gum health is essential for anyone, TM Prosthodontics outlines the most common gum ailments that individuals can experience.

Bleeding Gums

Bleeding gums are caused by a buildup in plaque. Plaque contains germs which attach the healthy tissue around the teeth. This will cause the gums to become inflamed and irritated, which may cause them to bleed when brushing of flossing. This is called Gingivitis and is the first stage of gum disease.

Plaque Build-up

Plaque that is not removed will eventually cause the gums to separate and recede from the teeth. Germs can get trapped inside these pockets, attacking the gums and bone supporting the teeth. The plaque will eventually harden into tartar. At this point, Gingivitis has progressed into a more serious condition called Periodontitis. Periodontitis can cause tooth loss and may affect the overall health of a person.

Both of these symptoms can be treated by several dental procedures.

Bridges and Implants

Bridges and implants are ways to replace teeth. Bridges are false teeth anchored in place by the surrounding teeth. The bridge is structured by having two crowns on the anchoring teeth, with the false tooth in the middle.

Bonding

Bonding works by using tooth enamel-colored composite resin to repair teeth that are decayed, chipped,  fractured or discolored. Bonding teeth can help eliminate tooth gaps, and the procedure can be completed within the dental office.
