WESTFIELD - Mayor Brian P. Sullivan will lead city residents in kicking off the 2016 holiday season with the traditional tree lighting ceremony Nov. 26 at Park Square.
The lighting will take place at about 6:30 p.m. following the city's annual Lanternlight Parade that will step off from 51 Franklin St. at about 6:15 p.m.. The parade, featuring Father Christmas and Dickens Christmas Carole characters will proceed down Elm Street to Park Square Green.
Santa will be at the square and hot cocoa and other refreshments will be available.
"This is a great community event to begin the holiday season, It is a time to come together and be thankful and positive through the holidays. It is an event I look forward to every year," Sullivan said.
As part of the holiday kick-off downtown stores will be open and participate in the annual Shop Small, Shop Local program.
