Jailbreak For iOS 9.3.1 Update: Expected Soon But Beware Of Fakes

Following
This article is more than 8 years old.

Following the release of iOS 9.3, the iOS jailbreaking community widely expected a new tool to be released. iOS 9.3 came and went, but there were a couple of good reasons why we were still waiting for a tool, even when iOS 9.3.1 was released to the public.

iOS 9.3 was quite buggy on release, so it made sense to wait for Apple to patch it. Similarly, iOS 9.3 was a big release in itself, so this is one explanation as to why we haven't seen any jailbreaking tools, at least major ones, since October last year - it's pointless releasing a valuable tool and its exploit for a small iOS release like iOS 9.1 or 9.2.

The recent tool release for iOS 9.1 was possible because Apple subsequently patched the exploit the team was using in a later version of iOS. So releasing it for anyone on iOS 9.1 meant the jailbreaking team - Pangu in this case - had nothing to loose. There are rumblings of an imminent release although it's looking unlikely that iOS 9.3.1 will be the target.

As jailbreak releases have become less frequent, the teams often wait for at least one or two patches to a big release such as iOS 9.3, before they release a tool. iOS 9.3.1 looked highly likely to find itself jailbroken, as I wrote about here, but the teams could just as well be waiting for iOS 9.3.2. There's also a small chance they're aiming to release the tool around Apple's WWDC event in June.

Even if this is so, several news websites have unwittingly (or not) pointed people at a fake jailbreak website recently. TaiG is a jailbreaking team, but it hasn't been particularly active since last year, at least on social media. However, thebitbag.com and gospelherald.com have, in the last few days, linked to a fake website called http://taig9.com. This claims to offer a browser-based jailbreaking tool, but it's to be avoided at all costs as it's fake.

At the moment there is no way to jailbreak iOS 9.3, so any sites claiming there is are either fake or misinformed so avoid them - there are loads out there. Jailbreak tools are free and you should never have to pay for them.

The current status is that a tool release for some imminent version of iOS 9.3 are highly likely, but we could be waiting a few more weeks. In the meantime, follow me on Twitter or Facebook for the latest jailbreaking news and I'll be back with a full guide when a new tool arrives.
