Claudia Schiffer, Stephanie Seymour take their own (almost) nude photos for Vogue Italia

These '90s supermodels are back and better than ever.

Though they rose to prominence more than 20 years ago, Claudia Schiffer, 48, and Stephanie Seymour, 51, returned to the spotlight for an empowering Vogue Italia cover shoot.

The daring covers show both models in a state of undress, also marking Schiffer's return to the magazine's cover for the first time in 25 years.

In one photo, Schiffer smiles wide, wearing nothing but a black blazer and heels, while in another shot she covers herself only with neon green high heels and a wallet.

One of Seymour's cover images shows her posing in a fluffy green top, while the other features her nearly nude with a black belt and a strategically placed camera covering her nether regions.

In each photo, the models are not only the subjects, but also the photographers, taking the photos themselves. This theme, according to photographer Collier Schorr, who supervised the shoot, puts power back in the hands of the models.

"I think this was about Claudia, Stephanie’s and my relationships with our sexualities and bodies, and about being seen as older women," Schorr said.

Schorr added she made sure the models were comfortable with the revealing photos.

"I think these shoots are about women’s acknowledgement of their own sexuality, and is very different to the representation of desire, which is always connected to the maker of the picture," said Schorr. "When you are photographing women such as Stephanie and Claudia, who are literally like the walking lexicons of fashion gesture in photography, there are things they will and will not do."

Schorr continued: "I certainly want the person I am shooting to assume power and assume their agency. You see Stephanie deciding to make a picture, and having an opinion about it and the permission that gives for me to assume a position in front of the camera."

The cover shoot comes amid growing allegations of misconduct against high-profile photographers.

Kim Kardashian West and Ariana Grande spoke out after accusations against photographer Marcus Hyde bubbled up on social media.

In 2017, American fashion photographer Terry Richardson was banned from further assignments for British Vogue and other major magazines. Richardson, known for his sexually explicit aesthetic, has long been the target of allegations that he has sexually exploited models he photographs — allegations he has repeatedly denied.
