It’s the year of Southern soul as The Dixie Performing Arts Center hosts another sold-out show.

This time, JJ Grey & Mofro will ply their bluesy blend of Delta Americana to a full house at The Dixie in Huntingdon on Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.

Grey’s grit and southern-inspired narratives have struck a chord with audiences. Melodies, rhythms, and lyrics that spin fundamental connections to home, the land and moss-hung swamps wade deep, sometimes with rich funky grooves, sometimes with soft soulful melodies.

With an intense and relentless energy, Grey's stage presence has been described as direct, fierce, real. Grey is a songwriter with a blue-collar spirit. He gains inspiration from heroes like Jerry Reed, Otis Redding and other touchstones of Memphis soul. His unique blend of rock, blues, folk, and gospel comes together in his own brand of the swamp blues tradition with vocals, a range of guitars, keyboards, and harmonica.

Hailing from Jacksonville, FL, the early days of JJ Grey & Mofro can be traced to the mid-90s and backwater juke joints. But over the course of nine albums and thousands of live shows, Grey’s music has found its way onto the concert stages and into the hearts of audiences all across the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia.

The Dixie is sharing the music of JJ Grey & Mofro as it begins the 2020 half of its 2019-2020 season. For information and tickets for upcoming events at The Dixie visit DixiePac.net or call The Dixie Box Office at 731-986-2100, Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
