Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez Conduct Awkward CNBC Interview Together

Former New York Yankees teammates Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez reunited for an interview on CNBC's Squawk Alley to discuss stock firm BTIG's charity day. Bob Pisani asked about the former aiming to purchase the Miami Marlins and the latter dating Jennifer Lopez, but neither retired shortstop had any interest in answering such questions during an uncomfortable interview.

"You guys are friends now?" Pisani asked early in Tuesday's segment before inquiring about an alleged strained relationship during their playing days.

"You’re bringing up stories from about 20 years ago, huh?” Jeter said.

"History Channel," Rodriguez added.

Both old shortstops wanted to keep the focus on their charities—Rodriguez represented the Boys and Girls Club, while Jeter supported his Turn 2 Foundation—but Pisani tried to obtain a juicier soundbite. Between getting called "Alex" and asked about the Marlins directly after declining to comment on the subject, Jeter did not look particularly pleased.

After they both offered thoughtful responses about baseball's pace of play, Pisani promptly shifted to another topic: Did Jeter enjoy the Met Gala? (He did not attend.)

For all their differences, neither Jeter nor Rodriguez had a reputation for stirring the pot or giving interesting quotes. That has not changed in retirement.
