CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — A citizen is being hailed as a hero after officials say they jumped into action and helped a 3-year-old girl who was choking at a restaurant in Chesapeake.

The Chesapeake Fire Department said this person’s heroic actions happened Dec. 8 at The Egg Bistro off Kempsville Road.

Officials say the person performed abdominal thrusts until the child’s airway was clear.

The child was awake and breathing when EMS arrived — but the person who may have saved her life left before anyone could talk to them.

In a Facebook post, the fire department applauded the actions of this #CitizenHero.
