Delonte West denies old rumor about LeBron James' mom

The rumor's stayed with Delonte West. Isn't he that guy who ... with LeBron James' mom?

The rumor never was proven true. The rumor has no clear origin. All that's known is, when they were Cleveland Cavalier teammates, West and James had a few interesting moments.

But facts don't stop rumors. So maybe West can do the trick. The Dallas Morning News has a long feature on West (behind a paywall), but they excerpted the part of the story that focuses on Gloria James. Here's the key part:

West says Gloria James reminded him of his single mother, Delphina Addison, who raised Delonte and his siblings to be "happy-poor, just enjoy life and the blessings that God has given us.

"If we want to continue to grow as a human race, what are we teaching our kids if we try to make humor and fun out of stuff like that?" West says of the rumor. "Number one, something like that never happened. I don't know where they got that from.

"For a strong black woman like that, for people to try to tear her down, that's terrible. That's terrible in so many ways."

So there's that, straight from the man's mouth.

Of course, that man currently is suspended by the Dallas Mavericks for conduct detrimental to the team. He risks being cut, according to the Morning News, despite being, you know, pretty good at basketball. West, 6-4, can play both guard positions and has career averages 9.7 points and 3.6 assists a game. The 29-year-old is coming off the most efficient season of his career.

But he's known as the guy who maybe, you know, with, you know who's mom. Even if he didn't.
