Countywide races

CA-22: Devin Nunes vs. Andrew Janz

16-year incumbent Nunes beat Democratic upstart Janz in the nation's most expensive congressional race by more than 10 points. Democrats retook 27 seats and control of the House, so Nunes will be out as House Intelligence Committee chairman, however.

26th Assembly District: Devin Mathis vs. Jose Sigala

Tulare County Superintendent of Schools: Tim Hire vs. Craig Wheaton

Tim Hire, Exeter Unified School District superintendent, leads the Tulare County Superintendent of Schools Race with just over 50 percent of the vote. Craig Wheaton, Tulare County Office of Education Administrative Services deputy superintendent, trails with just over 48 percent.

More than 48,000 votes had been tallied as of Wednesday morning.

"I'm running on adrenaline," Hire said early Wednesday morning. "I'm extremely excited and extremely thankful and appreciate all of the support. I look forward to the election results being certified and it becoming official."  

Visalia races

Measure A: Approved, barely.

Measure A brings $225 million over 30 years to fund a slew of new projects across Visalia Unified School District, including a new high school, and updates 18 xisting campuses.

The bond eked out an approval with 57 percent of the vote, just two more points than required to pass.

City Council, District 3: 

Brian Poochigian will take retiring Mayor Gubler's Visalia City Council seat with 51 percent of the vote.

Tulare races

Measure H: Approved

Measure H, which sought Tulare hospital district residents’ approval for the lease agreement between board member and Adventist Health, won big Tuesday night.

Measure H’s 88 percent win is the highest among all other local measures. In total, Measure H netted 8,216 votes of the 9,326 cast.

City Council, Area 2: Terry Sayre vs. Alex Gutierrez

Former Teacher Terry Sayre beat Alex Gutierrez with 57 percent of the vote. There were only 724 votes cast.

City Council, Area 4: Dennis Mederos vs Chris Harrell

Attorney Mederos defeated Tulare Historical Museum curator Harrell for Mayor Macedo's former council seat with 55 percent of the vote.
