lacks corpusCORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — South Texas retailer Lacks Valley Stores will grand open a 32,500-square-foot store here in May, its 12th in the state.

The store at 4330 South Padre Island Drive, at a former Ashley HomeStore location, will employ about 25 to 30 people as it brings the Top 100 company into a new but neighboring market. The grand opening event is slated for June 9.

“We are coming to Corpus Christi because we’re committed to serving our customers, and part of that commitment is this expansion,” said Lee Aaronson, CEO of the Pharr, Texas-based chain. “This has always been part of our plan and now we are ready to offer the Corpus Christi market a wide range of product.”

Already, many consumer from Corpus Christi have been visiting the retailer’s Alice, Texas, showroom about 45 miles west, so “placing a location in the heart of Corpus Christi not only made sense, but seemed to be the only logical solution,” said David Estes, executive office/general manager.

The building will have a similar design to the retailers Victoria, Texas, location opened last year, “a lot of different textures … to show off the many different furniture styles, and the interior will be 100% moveable, allowing us the option to completely redesign the layout by simply shifting the walls around,” Estes added.

Key suppliers include Homelegance, AICO, Bernhardt, Elements, Jackson/ Catnapper and Restonic in bedding.

Lacks’ Victoria showroom opened in June 2017, only to suffer severe damage from Hurricane Harvey and then reopen in mid-November.

“I must say I am very humbled by the community’s continued support for us there,” Estes said. “We are blessed to have so many people who love Lacks”

Lacks Valley, celebrating 83 years in business this year, has eleven stores in South Texas from the Rio Grande Valley to Laredo and to the north in Alice and Victoria. Furniture Today estimates the Top 100 company generated furniture, bedding and accessory sales last year of $85.5 million.
