Uitenhage police looking for suspect who raped teen

Uitenhage – Police in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape have appealed to the community to assist them in tracing a suspect who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl.

According to police, the victim was walking in Ponana Tini Road, Kwanobuhle, on Friday at about 2pm, when she was approached by an unknown man.

Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, said: "The suspect threatened her with a knife and dragged her into the bushes next to the road where he raped her."

The Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) in Uitenhage is investigating the case and has appealed to the community to assist them in tracing the suspect, who has been described as about 20 or 21 years of age, 1.6m tall and of slender build.

"Anyone with information on his identity or whereabouts is urged to contact Detective Sergeant Llewellyn de Vries from the Uitenhage Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit on 072 730 5810," said Swart.
