Coming up this weekend: A guy so legendary that Rolling Stone recently released a mini-documentary about his guitar.
That would be Willie Nelson, of course, who has played a nylon-string Martin since 1969. The instrument, called Trigger, has contributed a distinctive tone to Nelson's influential canon, even as it endured so much wear and tear that it literally has a hole worn through its soundboard.
In the film, Nelson remembers the circumstances that led to his purchase of the guitar, and how happy he was to find an instrument with "a little more Django in it," a reference to early jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. The film also describes the work necessary to keep the instrument from falling apart.
Nelson plays Friday and Saturday, March 6-7, at IP Biloxi. The weekend's other top acts include Aaron Lewis, who will appear Friday at Hard Rock Biloxi, and comedian Rodney Carrington, who is scheduled to appear Friday and Saturday at Beau Rivage.
