CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD -- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in the Capitol Heights area over the weekend.

Police were called to the intersection of Central Avenue and Hampton Park Boulevard at around 12:50 a.m. on May 11 to a report of a pedestrian collision, and found 43-year-old William Petty suffering from injuries, according to a report from the Prince George's County Police Department. Petty died Monday morning.

"The preliminary investigation reveals Petty was crossing Central Avenue when he was struck by an SUV that was heading eastbound," the report states. "Petty was not in a crosswalk. The driver of the SUV remained on the scene. Moments after this collision, the driver tells investigators a second vehicle struck the victim as he lay in the roadway.

"The second driver did not remain on the scene and may not know that he or she struck the victim," the report adds. "We would like to talk to that driver. There is no description for that second vehicle."
