PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Someone in Portsmouth isn’t feeling the holiday spirit.

Several families in one neighborhood found their decorations vandalized over the weekend and it was caught on camera.

From twinkling lights to holiday displays, it’s that time of year for Christmas cheer — but not everyone is feeling holly and jolly.

“He basically just pulled up in front of the house in front of his car, came up and drop kicked the reindeer and sped off,” said Nick Riley.

Riley woke up Saturday morning and found his Christmas decorations toppled over so he checked his surveillance cameras. Instead of decking the halls, the vandal decided to deck Rudolph. About 30 minutes later, the vandal came back to finish off the other decorations.

“Yes I was, very surprised to see that, I guess just the first time wasn’t enough for him,” Riley said. “I know kids do crazy things but at this time of year it just makes no sense.”

The vandal may have struck another home just a few blocks down.

“We couldn’t get our brand new snowman to come up. I had just put him out the night before,” said Matt Growney.

On Saturday evening, Growney noticed two of the family’s blow up displays weren’t inflating.

“You can see it’s got two rips that are pretty substantial,” he said, showing the damage.

He soon realized a Scrooge took a sharp object to puncture the displays. Growney has a son with autism and said he was crushed when he found out what happened.

“It’s kind of crappy. It’s like a real life Grinch type of situation,” Growney said.

Both families hope whoever it was will turn their Christmas frown upside down.

“It’s just senseless what you’re doing, especially this time of year,” Riley said.

“Attacking Christmas is kind of, I don’t know, it’s a bummer,” Growney said.

The Growney family filed a police report and both homeowners tell 10 On Your Side they’ve increased the security around their home in case the vandal comes back.
